Rates checked July 2026: 6.5% transaction · 4% + 20p processing · £0.16 listing · 0.48% UK regulatory operating fee (since 22 June 2026) · 20% VAT on fees unless VAT-registered.
What each Etsy fee actually is
Transaction fee — 6.5%. Charged on the item price plus the postage and gift wrap you charge the buyer. If you sell a £20 item with £3 postage, Etsy takes 6.5% of £23, not £20.
Payment processing — 4% + £0.20. Etsy Payments’ charge for handling the money, on the full order total. The 20p is fixed per order, which is why small orders are hit proportionally harder.
Listing fee — $0.20 (~£0.16). Charged when you list an item, every four months while it’s listed, and again each time it sells (auto-renew).
UK regulatory operating fee — 0.48%. A UK-specific levy on item price + postage. It rose from 0.32% to 0.48% on 22 June 2026 — if another calculator shows a lower figure than this one, it’s probably still using the old rate.
VAT on fees — 20%. If you’re not VAT-registered, Etsy adds UK VAT on top of every fee above. On a typical order this turns ~12% of fees into ~14.5%. VAT-registered sellers handle this differently — use the toggle in the calculator.
Offsite Ads — 12–15%. Only when Etsy’s own advertising brought the buyer: 15% if your sales are under roughly £8,000 in the last 12 months (Etsy sets the threshold at $10,000 USD, when it becomes mandatory at the lower 12% rate).

How much does Etsy take from a sale in the UK?
For a typical UK sale, Etsy takes roughly 12–17% of the order total once every fee is counted: 6.5% transaction fee, 4% + £0.20 payment processing, the £0.16 listing fee, the 0.48% UK regulatory operating fee, and 20% VAT on all of those fees if you’re not VAT-registered. On a £25 sale with £3.50 postage that’s about £4.19. If the sale came through an Offsite Ad, add another 12–15%.
Does the Etsy transaction fee apply to postage?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee is charged on the item price plus the postage you charge the buyer (and gift wrap). This is one of the most common reasons sellers underestimate their fees.
Why is VAT added to Etsy fees?
If you’re a UK seller who isn’t VAT-registered, Etsy adds 20% UK VAT on top of its fees. VAT-registered sellers are not charged it this way (they account for it via reverse charge and can usually reclaim it). Tick “I’m VAT-registered” in the calculator to see your numbers without it.
What changed in Etsy’s UK fees in 2026?
The UK regulatory operating fee rose from 0.32% to 0.48% on 22 June 2026. Many fee calculators still use the old rate — this one is current.
