Rates checked July 2026: 6.5% transaction · 4% + 20p processing · £0.16 listing · 0.48% UK regulatory operating fee (since 22 June 2026) · 20% VAT on fees unless VAT-registered.

The three numbers sellers confuse

Revenue is what the buyer paid. Deposited is what Etsy sent to your bank after fees. Profit is what’s left after fees and your materials, packaging and postage. Etsy’s dashboard shows you the first. Your bank shows you the second. Almost nothing shows you the third — and the third is the only one you can live on.

The gap is bigger than most sellers think. Etsy’s advertised fees sound like “about 10%”, but once the 6.5% transaction fee is applied to postage too, the 20p fixed processing charge lands on a small order, the 0.48% UK regulatory fee is added and then 20% VAT is charged on all of it, a UK seller who isn’t VAT-registered typically hands Etsy 13–17% of the order — before Offsite Ads, and before making anything.

Per-sale maths is a start. Per-shop truth is the point.

A calculator tells you whether one price works. It can’t tell you that your 2024 bestseller has been under water since materials went up, or that your postage charges have been £30 short this quarter, or which month actually made money. For that you need your real orders.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out my actual profit on Etsy?

Real profit = order total (item + postage charged) − every Etsy fee (transaction, processing, listing, UK regulatory fee, plus 20% VAT on those fees if you’re not VAT-registered) − your own costs (materials, packaging, the postage you actually pay). Most sellers who only subtract “Etsy fees” from the item price overstate their profit by 20–30%.

What’s a good profit margin on Etsy?

Handmade sellers typically aim for 30–50% net margin after fees and costs. Below 20%, one price rise in materials or postage can flip a product into losing money. The fastest fix is knowing your per-product margin — which is exactly what the free whole-shop tool shows you.

Why does my Etsy payment account show less than I expected?

Because fees come out per order, plus VAT on those fees, plus listing renewals — and refunds and Offsite Ads fees land later. Reconciling your Payments CSV against your orders is the only way to see it exactly; the free tool estimates it per order, and refund reconciliation is coming in ProfitHatch Pro.

Is this calculator really free?

Yes. The per-sale calculator and the whole-shop CSV tool are both free, with no signup and no shop connection. Your data never leaves your browser.
